Holding Hands, Healing Hearts
"My favorite part about this whole job is taking patients to their appointments than being scared or worried about a needle, or going in for radiation for the first time, or something like that, and just holding their hand and making them feel comfortable."

Fueled by Impatience and Heart
"16, I was such a baby, but, I was so pressured. I put that pressure on myself. It wasn't outside influence. It wasn't my family. Mom was always very supportive. I just wanted to do it, I was very impatient, I wanted to get into it, I wanted to take care of patients, I wanted to be with people."
Becky Crimaldi
EMT, Brooklyn
Before stepping into the world of EMS, Becky was a retail worker with big dreams and a heart full of ambition. She once navigated the everyday challenges of a typical job, carrying the self-imposed pressure of feeling like an outsider due to her unique and thoughtful nature. Life took an unexpected turn when she was in nursing school—a path she was drawn to because of her innate desire to help others—but then COVID hit, flipping her world upside down. In the midst of uncertainty, Becky found clarity. Conversations with friends who were already part of the EMS community lit a spark in her, and when one of her retail customers, donned in uniform, inspired her with real-life stories of healthcare, it was the final nudge she needed. Within days of applying online, Becky’s EMS journey began, marking a decisive break from her previous life and embracing a career filled with purpose and heart.
Today, Becky is not just an EMS professional—she’s a beacon of compassion and resilience in her field. In her role, every day is a mosaic of diverse experiences: from performing meticulous truck checks to taking patients to their appointments and easing their anxieties. Becky’s colleagues describe her as warm, approachable, and ever ready to lend an empathetic ear. One memorable moment that shaped her view of the job came when she found herself holding a patient’s hand during a difficult procedure, transforming an anxious moment into one of reassurance. This experience, among many others, has solidified her belief that EMS is more than just driving an ambulance; it’s about building trust, extending kindness, and creating meaningful connections. Mentorship plays a pivotal role in her professional life as well—she fondly recalls her trainer and mentor, Heather, whose guidance not only eased her transition into the job but also reinforced the importance of teamwork and continuous learning.
Off the clock, Becky is every bit as engaging as she is on the job. A true enthusiast of all things pop culture, she can often be found binge-watching her favorite sitcoms—“Friends” being a standout that she’s seen more times than she can count. When she’s not indulging in screen time, Becky embraces life’s outdoors by camping and hiking, adventures that she shares with her boyfriend on almost every weekend. Her love for homemade Chicken Alfredo, a delightful creation made with her boyfriend’s chicken and her own secret touch on the sauce, reflects her knack for blending passion with creativity in everyday life. Becky’s journey, from a high school graduate in Parma to a dedicated EMS professional, is a testament to her belief in never giving up. With a supportive family and a positive outlook, she carries a quiet pride and deep purpose—reminding us all that sometimes, the most rewarding path is the one that challenges us to grow, connect, and serve with an open heart.
