PROUD EMT MOM

“My son, for the longest time when he was little—he's 10—loved that I drove an ambulance. And if we were close by, I'd swing by the house so he could see it. Both my kids have been here before, so they've seen all the different trucks we have and the environment I work in. My son really likes to tell people, "My Mom's an EMT!"."

GENUINE COMFORTER

"I have tried for the last five years to make sure that my patient, and if their family's in the room, them as well, to feel comfortable. Ask anybody I work with. I walk into the room and it’s, ‘Hi, how are you today? Are you ready to leave?’ Is it an act? Yes, but it's genuine."

DeAnna Watson

EMT, Akron

DeAnna Watson didn’t always know she would end up in EMS. For years, she worked different factory jobs, but deep down, she wanted something more meaningful. One day, she decided she was done waking up at 4 AM for a job she didn’t love. She made a call to Stark State College, enrolled in EMT school, and never looked back. Now, five years into her career, she’s not only an experienced EMT but also a Field Training Officer, helping train the next generation of emergency responders. She takes great pride in making patients feel comfortable and believes in treating every new EMT, whether they’re fresh out of school or seasoned professionals, with the same level of support and respect.

At work, DeAnna is known for her humor, teamwork, and strong connections with her colleagues. She formed a close bond with her former partner, Jameson, and considers Sophia and Remington among her closest friends. While she once thought she wanted the high-energy action of 911 calls, one emotional experience changed her perspective, leading her to appreciate the calmer, more personal side of private EMS. She believes in continuous learning and isn’t afraid to ask questions—whether it’s about a new medication or a condition she hasn’t seen before. More than anything, she loves when the EMTs she has trained tell her they want to work with her. That’s when she knows she’s making a difference.

Outside of work, DeAnna enjoys simple pleasures—watching horror movies, binging The Flash, and learning to ride her motorcycle, Paulette. She’s a dedicated mom, and nothing makes her happier than hearing her son proudly tell people, “My mom’s an EMT.” Whether she’s on the job or at home, DeAnna puts her heart into everything she does, always striving to help others, lift up her team, and make a lasting impact in the world of EMS.
